Getting Here is Easy
.. and Once You're Here
The
island is 15 miles long and between 2 and 5 miles wide with most of the
island roads running to and from Rothesay in a loop. This can cause
some confusion when confronted with a signpost indicating 'Rothesay' in
two different directions .. do not worry, you'll soon get used to it.
From
Rothesay town centre head south out of the town on the A844 in the
direction of Mount Stuart House. Continue on this road until you reach
a road junction at the Kingarth Hotel. Turn left just before the hotel
and follow the road to Kilchattan village, St Blanes Hotel and the Pier
Cottages are situated at the far end of the village.
Kilchattan
Bay is a quiet, secluded village approx. 8 miles from the main town of
Rothesay, overlooking the Isles of Cumbrae and the Ayrshire coast.
Approaching the hotel the stunning vista of the Isle of Arran provides
the backdrop to this unrivaled location. The village's sandy beach and
surrounding hills and woodland are ideally suited for walkers and we
can provide trekking maps, drying facilities and packed lunches.
Bute
has three golf courses, sea angling, trout and coarse fishing, pony
trekking, bowling and sailing facilities.
The magnificent gothic grandeur of Mount Stuart House and gardens is a
'must see', as is Rothesay castle, one of the finest surviving medieval
castles in Scotland
